The Phoenix, or Chinese Phoenix, is another auspicious mythical creature believed to appear as an omen of the birth of a wise and virtuous ruler, much like the Qilin. While the Phoenix is sometimes confused with the Suzaku , one of the Four Cardinal Directional Animals, the Fenghuang is considered part of the "Four Spirits" along with the Qilin, Bi Xie (Tortoise), and Lung (Dragon), representing omens of good fortune not bound to the four directions.

In this design, the graceful, soaring form of the Phoenix has been captured, its elegant motion conveying the sense of a divine, benevolent creature. The pairing of the Phoenix  with the previously discussed Qilin design creates a harmonious set, representing the mythological "Four Spirits" that herald the arrival of enlightened leadership and auspicious times.

The flowing, dynamic lines of the Phoenix bring to life the majesty and power of this revered mythical bird, which is seen as a harbinger of peace, prosperity and the enlightened rule of a sage. Paired with the Qilin piece, this Fenghuang design would make a striking addition to any collection celebrating the rich symbolism of Chinese mythology.
