This design features the deity Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, wine, and revelry. In Roman mythology, he is known as Bacchus. The motifs used are his sacred serpent and the grape vine, his sacred tree. The amethyst stone encircled by the snake is also called the "Bacchus Stone", believed to have the power to prevent intoxication, serving as a protective amulet.
